New! EC-17
A Clearly Better Epoxy

FEBRUARY, 2005 — Remember the 'old days' when epoxies yellowed with UV exposure? When the amber cast of epoxy could alter the color of a decorative flooring application? Not any more!

Valspar has cleared the way to
a new generation of better epoxies

Valspar is pleased to introduce EC-17 Ultra UVR Epoxy, A water-clear, UV-resistant Valspar product that will change the way you and your customers view epoxies.

“Valspar has introduced this innovative technology in response to an age-old industry problem,” explains Lisa Szczupaj, laboratory manager for Valspar Flooring.

“Although epoxy is clearly an excellent medium for the application of decorative troweled or broadcast quartz floor systems, over time UV exposure can give it an amber hue. The discoloration could make the floor appear dirty and not true to its original color scheme."

"EC-17 uses advanced polymer chemistry to deliver a UV-resistant, color-stable option in epoxy-based quartz flooring.”

Absolute versatility & performance

This welcome change to the world of epoxies also delivers versatility. EC-17 Ultra Clear can be used for any of the following purposes:

  • Clear or pigmented coating
  • Quartz grout coat
  • Topcoat
  • Binder in a slurry system

EC-17 is a high solids epoxy that guards against dusting, chalking and yellowing with age. Its high-gloss appearance assures an outstanding flooring finish.

The crystal-clear EC-17 can be applied in a variation of 5 to 10 mils and is available in pre-proportioned kits. It features low viscosity and a excellent chemical resistance.

Auto dealerships, food prep areas, institutions, pharmaceutical applications — or any space where UV exposure is a threat to the appearance of a decorative or industrial floor — will benefit from this highly versatile, high performance epoxy.
