Valspar releases new reduced VOC chemical resistant urethane floor coating for OTC states

FEBRUARY, 2007 — Continuing its leadership role in developing environmentally-friendly, high-performance coatings, Valspar Flooring, a division of Valspar Corporation (NYSE: VAL), today launched its new high performance, environmentally friendly CRU-340 Chemical Resistant Urethane Coating for Concrete, which combines superior chemical resistance and UV stability in a low VOC (volatile organic compounds) formulation.

Valspar CRU-340 meets the flooring needs of industrial, aviation, institutional and commercial operations for improved performance and durability, environmental compliance and stylish aesthetics by providing:

• Mixed VOC of less than 340 g/L, making it compliant in all OTC states
• Superior resistance to aggressive chemicals, oils and liquids in areas subject to spillage, such as aircraft hangars and auto service bays
• UV light resistance to prevent chalking, fading or yellowing
• High gloss for excellent light reflectance and energy cost-savings
• Excellent abrasion resistance, critical for high traffic flooring
• Clear finish or pigmentable, using wide range of Valspar urethane color additive

OTC State Compliance

New CRU-340 addresses the VOC requirements of the member states of the Ozone Transport Commission (OTC), made up of New York, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, New Jersey, District of Columbia, Maine, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Vermont.

The OTC established its VOC requirements for coatings in an effort to improve air quality. By meeting the OTC’s requirements, which exceed those of the EPA, Valspar CRU-340 is now saleable in all U.S. states, except California where Valspar offers its “California blend” CRU-100.

Easy to mix and apply, CRU-340 is suited for both new and existing concrete floors. It cures quickly, allowing for a recoat in 12 hours if needed and light foot traffic in 24 hours. It cures through chemical reaction and therefore is not dependent on atmospheric moisture.
